Double exposure photographs of Florida landscapes
I began shooting merged images using film cameras in the 1980s and continue to do them today. The difficulty with film cameras is that its a hit-or-miss process because you cannot preview the second exposure.
Digital cameras allow you to preview the second exposure and that makes all the difference. Just like film, the images are exposed “in camera” on the sensor without the use of Photoshop. In my opinion, this technique bridges the gap between a photograph recording a single moment in time, and photography as a work of art.
In our local landscapes, these images capture the nuance of motion, color and movement that I see happening all the time, the spirit and essence of nature, I think.
